Idyllic, Riverside Tavern in Hammersmith

Located on the leafy banks of the River Thames in Hammersmith, the Rutland Arms offers a superb setting to eat, drink and watch the world float gently by. Opened in 1849, its picturesque riverside location makes the pub popular choice especially in spring and summer, with its outdoor terrace being one of the prime locations in Hammersmith to watch the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.

With its classic Victorian architecture, The Rutland Arms has an attractive, timeless style that’s both welcoming and cosy. Inside, you’ll find comfy sofas and atmospheric lighting, hardwood furnishings and beautiful chandeliers all coming together to create the perfect atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy yourself.

Then of course, there are the views. The Rutland Arms’ pretty riverside location guarantees some amazing vistas – and even better sunsets. The 19th century Hammersmith Bridge is one of London’s most iconic landmarks and is easily visible from The Rutland’s waterside terrace. Designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette and opened in 1887, the Grade II listed structure is striking when illuminated in the evening. Just feet away from The Rutland, you can also find the tranquil Furnival Gardens, providing an oasis of calm and greenery away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

West London’s vibrant centre

The West London district of Hammersmith is one of London’s most vibrant areas, home to the Hammersmith Apollo, a stunning 1930s Art Deco concert hall, and perhaps the area’s most famous entertainment venue. The lively and multicultural King Street, which spans the heart of Hammersmith, is the area’s commercial hub, whilst the riverside is its more tranquil counterpart and the ideal location for a gentle stroll alongside the Thames.

For those who would like to take in an alternative view of the some of the capital’s most interesting sights, the Rutland is an idea place to join the Thames Path Walk. The route starts at Hampton Court Palace and ends at Albert Bridge and includes a fascinating array of palaces, gardens and museums as you meander in the peaceful seclusion of the riverside path.
