Victorian gem in the heart Of Westminster

Dwarfed by the soaring glass skyscrapers of Victoria Street, The Albert is a genuine Victorian gem, and the pride of this bustling area of Westminster. Brimming with character, this Grade II listed pub is as famous for its attractive façade and traditional interior as it is for the warm welcome and hospitality all our guests enjoy here.

Just a short walk from the Houses of Parliament, two doors down from New Scotland Yard, and located on the site of an earlier pub, The Blue Coat Boy, The Albert tavern has over 150 years of history. During this time it has been a workshop and cottages, but it was in the mid 19th century that The Artillery Brewery purchased the pub for the princely sum of £978 and renamed it The Albert, in tribute to Queen Victoria’s husband.

In the heart of Westminster, The Albert, with its elaborate façade and magnificent Victorian detail, was built in 1862 and is the only surviving building from the earliest phase of the development of Victoria Street, when reformers tackled the area, then a notorious slum known as the Devil’s Acre, where half the population were known criminals.

A survivor of the Blitz, The Albert’s Victorian charm has remained virtually untouched through the years. There are a wealth of original features for our guests to enjoy, including hand-etched frosted glass windows, wrought iron balconies, gas lamps and ornate ceilings. There is some unique memorabilia too, including the House of Commons Division Bell and one of Queen Victoria’s napkins. Leading up to the carvery restaurant, you’ll find the Prime Minister’s gallery, a tribute to political figures of the past, some of whom have enjoyed The Albert’s fine food and drink over the years.
