On the ground floor of the pub you will find snug seating areas set around fireplaces and a warm interior that is dominated by wood. The wooden panelling, exposed beams and vaulted ceiling above the bar are among the standout features. These grand designs and the pub’s giant size can be attributed to its former life as the Ladybrook Hotel, which opened its doors for the first time in 1937.
At less than 100 years old, the Ladybrook is a youngster compared to the grand old buildings of Bramall Hall, which is just half a mile away and one of the area’s top attractions, but it still has an interesting history of its own. During the 1970s and 1980s, it was home to a snooker club used by the greatest players of the era. World champion Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins lived nearby and came here with the legendary players of the day. Even further back in the pub’s history are stories of it being haunted by the ghost of its first landlord, Harold Harrop, who is said to be responsible for spooky goings-on such as untouched glasses falling from shelves.
Private Function Rooms with Character
Private parties at the Ladybrook can be held in a small, sport-themed section of the downstairs bar area called the Tap Room. This cosy spot holds up to 50 guests and has a bar, pool table, darts board and a big TV screen. Upstairs, what was once the hotel area of the building is now put to excellent use as the Cheshire Suite. The larger of the pub’s two private function rooms, this suite can host up to 80 people standing and 60 seated.
The multipurpose Cheshire Suite is a bright open space with a drop-down screen and projector, making it ideal for business meetings and presentations. By night, it is a popular spot for large private parties and charity events, and makes for a lovely wedding reception venue. There is a large wooden dance floor at the centre of the room. Through double glass and wooden doors, you’ll find a landing with comfy sofas and the Cheshire Suite’s private bar and toilets. Catering, if required, can be brought in from outside or supplied by the pub’s kitchen.
A Haunted Village Pub
A big, friendly local that sprawls across two floors, this neighbourhood pub is a favourite with families, office workers, and sports fans who come for the big screens showing matches on BT and Sky. There are no guarantees of seeing our resident ghost during your visit, but you can be sure of a warm welcome, an excellent range of drinks and some classic pub food. You’ll find us on a pretty parade of shops just on the outskirts of Bramhall village, a stone’s throw from the historical site of Bramall Hall and Park.
