The station, reached by so many lines that it serves as the busiest transport hub in Britain, was opened in 1863. Our pub, then known as The Windsor Castle, followed in 1890 and has been serving train travellers ever since. Trace the history of Clapham on the walls of The Junction, where historical photos of the town show a timeline of the pub and its surrounding area. Look out for old shots of the Clapham Grand, a music venue just over the road from us that opened in 1900.
Given the famous football teams based in the area, it’s no surprise that fans of every allegiance head to The Junction for pre-match drinks. Fulham’s Craven Cottage and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge are both less than 20 minutes’ away from the pub, while England rugby’s home ground in Twickenham isn’t much further. Our multiple screens are ideal for watching every kind of match with other local sports enthusiasts.
Step off the busy streets outside into the bar area of The Junction and you’ll immediately become more relaxed. In winters we light our two open fires, which along with the wood-panelled interiors and traditional décor, instantly make people feel at home. Whether you are on your travels through the city or you live in the extensive housing areas around Battersea and Clapham, drop in for a drink. You can sample our own brew, the 1730 pale ale, or try something from our large range of cask ales.
Lounge in a Spacious Outdoor Function Room
In the centre of London where space is a premium, it seems like a luxurious discovery to stumble across Platform 18. Our walled patio, so named after the 17 platforms of the neighbouring station, is a roomy and rare space outside, available to book for groups of up to 60 people. A barbecue area and an outdoor bar make it ideal for summer parties, although it is heated for winter events too, making it a year-round escape from the manic pace of London life. You can also book a section of the pub inside, whether it’s for private events, for watching big sporting events or just for group meals.
Step Off a Train and into The Junction
As we’re next to a constantly bustling transport hub, The Junction is ideally located for groups from across the city to converge for a drink. You can make the most of our outdoor seating, or meet here prior to going to an event at the newly refurbished Clapham Grand, to enjoy the cosy atmosphere, wide range of real ales and the latest action in rugby and football. The whole of London, with its theatres, sightseeing and shopping, is just a short train ride away from the famous station the pub is named after.
