Several stories circulate about a ghost that appears from time to time in the Silver Cross, which harks back to the colourful history of the venue. The pub in its current form was rebuilt in the 21st century, but the history of the area means that locals and even royals have been drinking on the site for over 300 years. An Ordnance Survey map from 1871 cites Cromwell’s House being right opposite our pub. The spectral figure occasionally seen walking around the pub, or knocking our photos off the wall, is said to be a lady of the night who was murdered there.
You don’t have to believe in the supernatural to enjoy the many charms of the Silver Cross. Our flagstone flooring, mahogany wood and sweeping staircase give the spacious interior a striking aesthetic, while our wide range of seating options, from cosy sofas for relaxing to stools for perching, make it the perfect spot to enjoy one of our cask ales. We have space for over 250 people across the whole pub, and several television screens showing the best in rugby, football and other sports, making this a popular venue for big matches.
MAKE THE MOST OF OUR FLEXIBLE FUNCTION ROOM OPTIONS
Step into the Silver Cross from London’s bustling city centre and you will find that our building just keeps on going. We have several alcoves, smaller rooms and sections found around the bar, each with their own individual charms. You can book any of these areas out for your private function, whether that’s a group dinner, a drinks party or an opportunity to watch Premier League football.
For bigger events, head down our spectacular staircase to the downstairs room, which can host up to 75 people seated or 100 standing. This attractive, private space can be adapted to whatever you need for your event. We can provide seated at table dining or lay out elaborate buffets depending on your preference, making it suitable for everything from corporate events to family parties. We can even open up the space for group breakfasts. Whatever the occasion, we look forward to welcoming your function to the Silver Cross.
