The Lamb and Flag provides an atmospheric and much-loved place to relax in the restless modernity of the surrounding city. It’s something the locals have been doing since 1777, when our pub was first licensed. The area hasn’t always been as pleasant as it is today, however, as it was once a run-down neighbourhood located near the site of public hangings. When the area was redeveloped into housing at the end of the 18th century, anarchist groups who lived nearby would come to our pub for drinking and debating. Before entering the pub, take a look at our sign, which bears the crest of Simonds Brewery, the beer-making owners of the pub during this period.
The street began to decline in the 19th century, even as Oxford Street grew in popularity as a shopping destination. However, in the 1960s, a property developer saw the potential of the location and wholly transformed the area, establishing it as a destination for shops and restaurants with a smaller, more intimate feel than nearby Oxford Street. You can stop by the Lamb and Flag while exploring the upmarket shops and independent boutiques that resulted from this reinvention.
Guests from around the city head to the Lamb and Flag to meet friends in a convenient location or to unwind after a hard day’s work in the nearby offices. We have large screens which show a year-round calendar of the best sporting events. Bring friends to cheer on your favourite team over a pint of one of our cask ales. In summer, make the most of our location and sit outdoors to enjoy the lively atmosphere of St. Christopher’s Place.
Hire our Spacious Function Room
The Lamb and Flag stretches across two floors, and the Flag Bar upstairs can be booked out as a space for parties, events and work dos. The room is most often laid out for formal dining and can accommodate up to 35 people for dinner. Alternatively, use the space for a drinks evening, when up to 50 people can fill the light and airy room. In winter, the fireplace gives the space a particularly cosy atmosphere, making it a warm and welcoming place to watch sport on the large TV. Whatever the occasion we look forward to welcoming your function to the Lamb and Flag.
Take a Break in a Pretty and Central Location
Workers looking to relax after the day’s grind and bargain hunters exhausted from shopping on Oxford Street enjoy the Lamb and Flag for its gorgeous location and friendly staff. St. Christopher’s Place can feel like a hidden discovery to those who stumble on the square, but in reality we are located in the heart of London. The Royal Academy of Arts and the theatres of Soho are nearby, making the pub an ideal spot to meet before heading out to see a show. Find us just a moment away from the Bond Street tube stop and a pleasant stroll away from Regent’s Park and Hyde Park.
