Handsome Pub in The Heart of Cosmopolitan Bayswater

The Kings Head is a cosy and inviting pub located on a quiet street in the bustling Bayswater district of central London. Easily accessed by public transport, our pub is just a short walk from Bayswater tube station. It’s also within easy reach of some of London’s most eclectic districts, including colourful Portobello Market and Notting Hill Gate, where you can wander amongst antique shops, record stores and cafés. Another popular local attraction is the lovely Kensington Gardens, which are literally at the end of the road.

The Kings Head has been a licensed premises since 1822. How the pub got its name is something of a debate, while many suppose it was to commemorate George IV, the king at the time the building was erected, the image on our pub sign is Charles I, who famously lost his head to the guillotine in 1649.

The pub sits in an area of long avenues of grand town houses, which were built mainly in the 19th century and occupied by statesmen and successful merchants and shopkeepers. Prior to this, Bayswater had been a small hamlet where people stopped to water their horses in the Bayswater Rivulet, records of this date back to at least 1380.

The Kings Head has a warm, inviting interior, wood panelling and traditional leaded windows provide a relaxing ambience, with high tables and stools dotted about the large bar and a fine range of ales, lagers and wines available, along with classic pub food. We also have a number of big TV screens so our guests can enjoy their favourite sporting events live.

The rear of the pub has more relaxed seating, and on warm days you can sit outside beneath the awning and hanging flower baskets and watch the world go by.

The Kings Head doesn’t have a single function room as such, but rather two function areas at the rear of the pub, which can be hired out separately or together, with capacity for up to 40 people in total. One of the areas known as the Kings Table is a large cosy sitting corner on a grand table opposite the fireplace so is quieter and more discreet, which makes it ideal for business meetings or chess groups. The other area is our sports area with a large projection screen on which all major sporting events can be viewed in comfort. Our pub is also popular for after-work events, birthday parties and other social gatherings, and we can also offer breakfast for early morning meetings.

The Kings Head is surrounded by an enticing mix of bustling big city atmosphere, quiet avenues, leafy gardens and vibrant markets and shops. Kensington Gardens is just a short walk away, and as one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks, the gardens are home to Kensington Palace, the Italian Gardens, Albert Memorial, Peter Pan Statue and the Serpentine Galleries.

Also nearby is Portobello Market, the world’s largest antiques market with over a thousand dealers selling all manner of weird and wonderful collectables, as well as Notting Hill Gate, famous as the setting of the film ‘Notting Hill’. You can easily reach The Kings Head by tube: Bayswater (District and Circle Lines) is a minutes’ walk away, while Queensway (Central Line) is less than five minutes’ walk.
