Horsham has always been a lively and prosperous market town, and you can still explore its delightful medieval shopping streets, known locally as Horsham Alleyways. Beautiful houses along The Causeway speak of the town’s 17th and 18th century wealth, and are now some of the most desirable homes in West Sussex. So, perhaps it’s not surprising to find The Anchor Hotel is part of a long tradition of fine inns at 2 Market Square. The first is recorded in 1611 and played a prominent role in the life of the town for centuries, even serving as a Borough Court on occasion.
Our pub dates back to 1899 and its lovely façade brings an element of 19th century grandeur to the ancient Market Square. Rich, heritage colours and a stately bar add distinction to The Anchor Hotel’s interior, creating both a sense of tradition and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Pool tables, big screen TVs and regular live music are some of our pub’s more recent traditions, which are particularly welcome in winter. During the warmer months, our pretty courtyard is a popular choice on long summer evenings; a haven for tired shoppers or for local professionals enjoying an after-work drink.
A Function Room for Morning, Noon and Night
Our function room is on the first floor of The Anchor Hotel and has a lovely view over the Market Square from its tall, stately windows. Bright and fresh during the day, the room is ideal for breakfast gatherings, business meetings and presentations. In the evening it transforms into a more intimate space with soft lighting and a private bar, bringing a sense of occasion to family celebrations, work parties, birthday parties and even formal dinners.
Decorated to reflect The Anchor Hotel’s period style, our function room sits 50 guests comfortably. A drop-down screen and projector are also available for presentations and meetings.
A Lively Pub in the Heart of Historic Horsham

The Causeway, with its delightful 18th century houses and iconic avenue of plane trees, is just minutes from our door. Horsham’s famous medieval Alleyways are nearby and, the old market square itself is trimmed on all sides with fascinating buildings. Just a short walk from our pub lies the town’s lively Carfax street, punctuated with contemporary art, surrounded by excellent shopping and close to Horsham Station. The town itself s delightfully situated between the Surrey Hills and the Sussex Downs, yet within easy travelling distance of London, Gatwick Airport and the South East Coast.
